The difference between dominant and non dominant Discourse is that dominant Discourse are large and in charge. The dominate groups has control over the situation. whether it be through money fame power. As opposed to non dominant group that does not currently have power.

Swales

I believe that Swales would consider a first year college classroom as well as a graduate class a discourse community. I believe that A discourse community is a group of communicators with a common goal or interest that adopts certain preferred ways of participating in public discussion. Which a college class at both levels fit into. And the classroom idea hits the 6 guidelines for a discourse community to have as laid out by Swales.

Murray, Haas & Flower

Murray Question 5:
I would agree with Murray that all writing is biographical. All the writing you do is has little piece of you in it. Nobody can sit down and write the exact same thing as you. Your experiences and the way you think come through in almost everything you write. True finding your voice in writing such as a lab report would be much more difficult to find then most but if you look closely it is there. I don't think this would change my style of writing would change it just makes me more aware or my voice and what really make my writing unique and how to make my writing stronger by knowing who I am as a writer.
Haas & Flower question 2:
The though of construct and representation of a text  is important to Haas & Flower because they are trying to teach rhetorical read and know the situation and who was this written for, why are they writing this, who is writing this and the history behind it. The idea behind know all of this information is that it helps immensely with the process of critically reading something. You being to see authors writing less as facts and more as discourse.

Social facts

Social facts are things people believe to be true and can then affect how a person views a situation. Religion is the first thing that comes to mind if you believe in a god you may look and a situation such a someone who has been ill getting better as an act from god. Where someone who doesn't believe in a god could see in as medicine doing it's job or just a coincidence. Another example  could be if someone believes in aliens and see a flying object around area 51 they are likely to believe that it is a UFO. Where someone who doesn't believe in aliens might conclude that area 51 is where USA armed forces test their aircraft so it is most likely something that the armed forces are testing .

Rhetorical Situations & Their Constituents Question 1

rhetorical situation refers to any set of circumstances that involves at least one person using some sort of communication to modify the perspective of at least one other person. I would agree with that there are 3 major components of  rhetorical situation exigence, audience and constraints. Exigence refers to the reason why we perceive a need to speak out on an issue or situation. Audience refers to  those with an interest and ability to to react to exigence. Constrains refer to  limitations and opportunities for what can be said and how advocates and audiences shift back and forth. These component control how and what can be said in the rhetorical situation.  There are  Examples of rhetorical situation everywhere from Martin Luther King’s I have a dream Speech to students writing a research paper

rhetoric

I would agree Covino and Jolliffe that rhetoric is primarily verbal or at least that the most recognizable form of rhetoric, but it is certainly not the only form. Rhetoric also be conveyed with body langues or actions. If you really want to persuade or motivate an individual or a group I've always thought that leading with your actions is the best way to make someone really buy into what you are doing. For instance, on many of the teams I have played on I find myself motivated by the kid who is out there working their butt off and going above and beyond what is asked of them. By holding them selves to a higher standard they makes you also want to hold your self to a higher standard.  I would be willing to argue that actions are the most powerful form of rhetoric. It takes my back to that age old saying "Action speak louder that word".
